About the Aquarium & Complex

The Malta National Aquarium sits at Qawra Point, on Malta’s northern coast, within a distinctive starfish-shaped complex overlooking the Mediterranean.

Home to over 50 tanks and more than 250 species, the Aquarium combines immersive exhibits, education, conservation and Maltese maritime heritage in one visitor experience.

Spread across approximately 20,000 square metres, the wider complex brings together the Aquarium with dining, leisure, public spaces and visitor facilities.ion at the heart of the Mediterranean is the key to its rich history.

Designed as a destination in its own right, the complex connects the Aquarium experience with the surrounding Qawra seafront, creating a space to explore, learn, dine and relax.

An Immersive Experience

At the heart of the Aquarium is the main tank, approximately 12 metres in diameter, with a walk-through tunnel offering a unique view of the underwater environment.

Throughout the visitor journey, themed exhibits, historical references and carefully designed habitats bring together aquatic life, Maltese heritage and storytelling.

Education & Learning

Education is an important part of the Malta National Aquarium experience.

Our Education Team delivers programmes and activities for schools, families and visitors, covering topics such as marine biology, ecosystems, biodiversity and conservation.

School programmes complement areas of the Maltese National Curriculum, while talks and activities throughout the year help make learning engaging and accessible.

Conservation & Environmental Awareness

The Malta National Aquarium aims to encourage greater awareness and appreciation of aquatic life and the wider natural environment.

Through education, conservation initiatives and collaboration with local organisations, we help raise awareness of biodiversity, environmental challenges and the importance of protecting natural habitats.

Environmental responsibility is also reflected throughout our operations and visitor experience.
