Step inside a zone inspired by one of Malta’s most fascinating underwater landmarks.

The Submarine is modelled on HMS Stubborn, a British World War II submarine that now rests around 3 km off Qawra Point and has become a well-known dive site. As you move through the zone, take a closer look through the submarine windows. What may seem empty at first can reveal a surprising amount of marine life.

Expect to spot creatures such as octopus, sea anemones and clownfish, along with one of the Aquarium’s most important conservation displays.

The Submarine zone also gives visitors the opportunity to see live shark eggs and developing embryos up close. Through our collaboration with Sharklab-Malta, rescued shark egg cases are given the chance to develop safely before the young sharks are released back into Maltese waters.

Over 400 sharks have been successfully released through this collaboration, making the zone not only an exciting part of your visit, but also a glimpse into the conservation work taking place behind the scenes at the Malta National Aquarium.

It’s a zone that rewards curiosity, so look closely. There may be more to discover than you first expect.
