Give your students a day to remember at the Malta National Aquarium, where discovery, interaction and fun come together to create a memorable learning experience.
Our Ocean Explorers school programmes combine a guided Aquarium visit with age-appropriate educational activities designed to spark curiosity about the ocean, biodiversity and the natural world.
From our youngest explorers to secondary school students, each programme is adapted to the relevant age group and linked to areas of the school curriculum.

Ocean Explorers programmes are available for groups from Kinder through to secondary school, with activities adapted to suit each age group.
Typical visit duration: approximately 2 hours
Ocean Explorers
Learning comes to life as students explore the Aquarium and encounter an incredible variety of marine and terrestrial species.
Each programme combines exploration with hands-on learning, encouraging students to ask questions, make connections and better understand the role of the ocean in our lives and the part we can all play in its future.
The Malta National Aquarium's school programme also forms part of the wider United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021–2030, supporting the development of ocean literacy among younger generations.

Guided Aquarium Tour
Explore the Aquarium with our team and discover fascinating, educational facts about the animals encountered along the way.
Break Time
A designated area is available for students to enjoy their own food during the visit. Food is not provided by the Aquarium.
Interactive Activity
Each group takes part in an educational activity adapted to their age and designed to complement classroom learning.
Most school visits last approximately two hours, although selected activities may require additional time.
Activities
For toddlers and groups of students with disabilities, a dedicated sensory activity can be provided in place of the activities below.
Plastic Patrol (Kinder 1–2)
The ocean needs young rangers! Children sort marine animals from rubbish while matching colours, shapes and sizes, providing a playful introduction to biodiversity and caring for our oceans.
Suitable for Ages 3-5
Sensory Adventure (Year 1-2)
How do animals experience the world underwater? Young researchers explore sight, sound, smell, taste and touch through a multisensory activity that introduces familiar sea creatures in a completely new way.
Suitable for Ages 5-7
Reef Rivals (Year 3-4)
The coral reef is under threat! In this interactive trivia challenge, students work to defend their reef by putting their knowledge to the test and discovering more about these important ecosystems.
An optional fieldwork worksheet can also be incorporated into the guided Aquarium tour.
Suitable for Ages 7-9
Hungry, Hungry Habitat (Year 5-6)
Does a frog belong in the desert? Can a piranha live in the sea? Who eats whom?
Young ecologists explore habitats, adaptations and food chains through an interactive game that reveals how every species has its own place within an ecosystem.
Suitable for Ages 9-11
Operation H₂O (Year 7-8)
There is an alien among us! Students become part of a seagrass meadow community and use logic, role-play and marine science to uncover the invasive lionfish before it takes over.
Suitable for Ages 11-13
The Case of the Myste-Ray (Year 9-11)
A disaster has struck and the investigation begins.
Students take part in a Cluedo-style mystery centred around endangered species and marine protection, challenging their observation, reasoning and investigative skills.
An optional MATSEC worksheet can also be incorporated into the guided Aquarium tour.
